Information for residents about weather warning this coming weekend
The Met Office has issued the following:
“A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued as the current heatwave for much of the UK breaks up into more unsettled weather over the weekend.
The yellow warning for rain covers central and southern parts of England and Wales and will be in force from early on Saturday to midnight on Sunday.
Across the warning area, heavy thundery showers are expected to break out over the course of the weekend, especially on Sunday when these could be widespread and torrential in places. Whilst rainfall totals will vary considerably from places to place, up to 100mm of rain could build up in some locations with potential impacts including the chance of some flooding as well as poor travel conditions due to surface water. Lightning and hail are expected to be additional hazards.”
Where to get sandbags and sand
Supplies of sand and sandbags are available at North Tawton Fire Station. If you think you may be at risk of flooding, please be prepared and get some sandbags for yourself – please only take what you will need and leave supplies for others. You will need to take a spade or something to transfer the sand to the sandbags. The sand is in a dumpy bag in the corner of the fire station yard, there are sandbags in the dumpy bag and behind it.
Be aware that supplies are normally available at the end of Mill Lane, but this is currently inaccessible and waiting for vegetation to be cut back.
If you have any queries about sand and sandbags, please ring Cllr Steve Whiteley on 07400 474534.
Please everyone take care and keep safe.
